Apply to be restored to the roll of solicitors

If you have been removed from the roll

• You must complete our background checks/screening before you can apply to be restored. However, you do not need to complete these if your name was removed during our annual keeping of the roll exercise and you apply to be restored within three months.
• If you have been admitted in another jurisdiction, you will need to upload a certificate of good standing from that jurisdiction in English. The certificate must be less than three months old. We recommend that it is dated no more than two months before you submit your application.
• You must tell us why you want to be restored to the roll.
• You must tell us whether you will need a practising certificate.
• Before you apply, please make sure you update your personal and professional details.

If you have been struck off the roll

• If your name has been struck off the roll, you must apply to the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal (SDT) to have your name restored.
• You must apply using the restoration to the roll form on the SDT website.

Disclosing a suitability issue

When applying to be restored as a solicitor, you must disclose any issues covered by our Assessment of Character and Suitability Rules. This includes disclosing matters identified in your screening, and regulatory and disciplinary findings, including findings by us.

Payment

• The fee is £20.
• You need to pay online by credit or debit card at the end of your application

What happens

• We will email you when we have made a decision.
• If you disclose a suitability issue, a decision can take up to 120 days from the date we receive your completed application.
