Warning: Bogus website misusing the name and details of Adam Bernard Solicitors Ltd and correspondence misusing the name and details of Peter Strecker

A website with the domain name 'adambernards.net' is operating and misusing the name and details of a genuine firm of solicitors and correspondence has been sent to a member of the public misusing the name and details of Peter Strecker.

What is the scam?

The SRA has been informed that a bogus website is operating and misusing the name and details of a genuine firm of solicitors (see details below).

The SRA has been informed that emails and WhatsApp messages have been sent to a member of the public purporting to be from a genuine solicitor Peter Strecker (see details below) from a genuine firm of solicitors (see details below). The SRA understands that the emails were sent from 'peter.strecker@adambernards.net' and the WhatsApp messages were sent from '+44 7587 674144' using a profile photo taken from the genuine firm's website.

The bogus website 'adambernards.net' misuses the name and details of the genuine firm of solicitors (see below). The email address 'peter.strecker@hotmail.com' was used to register the domain. The bogus website contains the SRA digital badge to give the impression that it is a genuine website.

Any business or transaction through the bogus website, email addresses and telephone number referred to in the scam alert above is not undertaken by any firm or solicitor authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Adam Bernard Solicitors Ltd. The firm's head office address is 25 Barking Road, Upton Park, London, E6 1PW. The genuine firm uses the email domain @adambernards.co.uk and its genuine website is www.adambernards.co.uk.

The genuine firm of Adam Bernard Solicitors Ltd has confirmed that it has no connection to the bogus website or the details referred to in the above alert.

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor called Peter Strecker who was a former employee of the genuine firm Adam Bernard Solicitors Ltd. The SRA number for the genuine solicitor is 525660.

Peter Strecker has confirmed that he does not have any connection to the website, email addresses or telephone number referred to in the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
