Emails have been sent misusing the name Alexandra Simon and the firm name Stratford Solicitors Limited, in relation to a completion statement.

What is the scam?

Emails have been sent misusing the name of a genuine solicitor and firm (see genuine details below).

The emails have been sent in relation to providing a purported completion statement with bank details for payment, in relation to a property transaction,

The bogus emails were sent from the following email addresses: alexandar.simons@gmail.com and alexandra.simon@stratfords-solicitor.com (please note the additional 's' at the end of Stratford, in the bogus domain name).

Any business or transaction through the email addresses above is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor called Alexandra Simon (SRA ID 827546) who is an employee of Stratford Solicitors Limited (SRA ID 428775). The firm’s genuine email domain is @stratford-solicitors.com.

The genuine firm Stratford Solicitors Limited has confirmed that neither the firm nor the genuine Alexandra Simon have any genuine connection to the emails referred to in the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means.
