Emails sent misusing the SRA number of Elite Law Solicitors Limited purporting to be from a 'Dr. Stefan Marek' and 'Jack Johnson' of 'Elite Lawyers Group LLP'

What is the scam?

The SRA has seen emails that have been sent from 'Jack Johnson' and 'Dr. Stefan Marek' misusing the SRA number of a genuine firm of solicitors (see below) regarding an investment made through an unregulated trading platform.

The emails were sent from the email address 'jack.johnson@elitelawyersgroup.uk' and 'stefan.marek@elitelawyersgroup.com'. The email also includes an additional email address of 'info@elitelawyersgroup.co.uk', a telephone number '+44 7537 132805' and website https://elitelawyersgroup.co.uk/.

The website states that the SRA number for 'Elite Lawyers Group LLP' is 789321.

The SRA does not regulate or authorise a firm of solicitors named 'Elite Lawyers Group LLP' and the SRA number 789321 is not genuine.

Any business or transaction through the email addresses, telephone number or website mentioned above is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Elite Law Solicitors Limited (SRA ID 617591). The genuine firm uses the email domain @elitelawsolicitors.co.uk, telephone number 01494722326 and website www.elitelawsolicitors.co.uk.

The genuine firm Elite Law Solicitors Limited does not employ individuals named 'Stefan Marek' or 'Jack Johnson'.

The SRA does not authorise or regulate an individual named 'Stefan Marek'.

The SRA authorises and regulates multiple individuals called Jack Johnson. None of those solicitors are believed to be connected with the correspondence referred to in the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
