Warning: Emails misusing the name of Simmons & Simmons LLP

11 September 2025

Emails have been sent misusing the name of Simmons & Simmons LLP.

What is the scam?

The SRA has been notified that several emails have been sent to recipients misusing the name and brand logo of a genuine firm of solicitors (see genuine details below). The emails allege violations of various intellectual property rights linked to a Facebook page operated by the recipient. The recipients of these emails are asked to click on a link to view evidence of the alleged violations. There is a concern that the links may contain malware.

One of the emails was sent from 'noreply@appsheet.com'. Both emails seen by the SRA assert that their purported clients are the rightful owners of the intellectual property rights and invite the recipients to click on the link to view the evidence.

The emails also provide an email address of 'info@simmons-simmons.com', a contact number of '+442076282020' and an address of '357 Atlantic Avenue, Delray Beach, FL 33483'.

Any business or transaction through the above email addresses, contact number or postal address is not undertaken by a firm or solicitor authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Simmons & Simmons LLP.  The Simmons & Simmons group does have an office in the US, for which the correct address is 14th Floor, 535 Mission Street, San Francisco, CA 94105, United States.

The genuine firm Simmons & Simmons LLP has confirmed that it does not have any connection to the emails referred to above.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
