Warning: Email misusing the names of Philip Marshall Goldberg, The Law Society and the SRA

An email has been sent falsely claiming to be from Philip Marshall Goldberg at The Law Society and falsely says that he is working with the 'cyber security team at the SRA'.
What is the scam?
The SRA have seen an email that was sent to a member of the public purporting to be from a genuine solicitor called Philip Marshall Goldberg who is authorised and regulated by the SRA (see details below). The email claims that the recipient has been a victim of a crime and has been scammed through online investments. The email falsely says that Philip Marshall Goldberg is working at The Law Society and working with the SRA's cyber security team to resolve matters.
The email seen by the SRA was sent from Philip Marshall Goldberg, Solicitor/Legal Representative, using the email address of 'philipgoldberg@lawsociety.me' and provides an address of Parkway Business Centre, Parkway Five, Princess Rd, Manchester, M14 7HR and a telephone number of '+447771055009.'The email misuses the name and SRA ID of a genuine solicitor (details below) and the website addresses of The Law Society 'www.lawsociety.org.uk/en' and the SRA 'www.sra.org.uk/consumers/register/person/'.
Any business or transaction through the email of 'philipgoldberg@lawsociety.me' and telephone number '+447771055009' are not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.
Is there a genuine firm or person?
The Law Society of England and Wales is the professional body for solicitors in England and Wales. The genuine head office address is '113 Chancery Lane, London, WC2A 1PL, England' and the website address is 'www.lawsociety.org.uk'.
The SRA also authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor called Philip Marshall Goldberg, whose SRA ID is 38905. The genuine solicitor Philip Marshall Goldberg is not employed by The Law Society and has confirmed that he has no knowledge or genuine connection to the email referred to in this alert.
What should I do?
When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
